Derek Stoner is a lifelong outdoorsman, land manager, and naturalist.  He will present Native Plants for Nesting Birds, a popular program that introduces thoughtful ways to consider the role that native plants play in hosting nesting birds.  From colorful cardinals to tiny hummingbirds, there are many wonderful avian visitors that depend upon native plants for their nesting success.  Learn methods to improve the attraction of birds to your home and landscape through simple and proven planting techniques.

Susan is a member of the Garden Club of Harrisburg.  Currently serving as Chairman of Central Area Judges Council, she is a NGC Accredited Flower Show Judge.  She has attended several Conferences of the Floral Arrangers of America, held annually in Orlando, Florida.  She will show us some of the techniques she has learned that we can use to enhance our own designs, especially leaf manipulation.

Program: "Old-Growth Forest Network"

Joan Maloof is a scientist, a writer, and the Founder and Director of the Old-Growth Forest network, a non-profit organization creating a network of forests across the US that will remain forever unlogged and open to the public.  Dr. Maloof is a Professor Emeritus at Salisbury University in Maryland.  She is the author of Teaching the Trees: Lessons from the Forest and several other books.  Are you aware that Lancaster County has an old-growth forest?  Located in the River Hills is our county's only documented old-growth forest, the 65 acre Ferncliff Wildflower and Wildlife Preserve.
