Program: "Fruition Seeds: Organic Seed for the Northeast"
Speaker: Petra Page-Mann
Have you ever looked at a packet of seeds you are about to plant, only to find that they were produced in a region far away from the one in which you live? Fruition Seeds, an organic seed company located on the Finger Lakes in upstate New York, was founded by Petra Page-Mann and Matthew Goldfarb in 2012. The flower, fruit and vegetable seeds they nurture are selected for performing well in growing conditions specific to the short, cool, moist growing season of the northeast. On five acres of leased land, in an area not known for seed-growing, the pair produces and sells more than 60 varieties of seeds.

Program: "The Buzz About Bees"
Speaker: Joyce Wilder
We may think of bees as small flying insects that buzz about our gardens and picnics just to annoy and sting. Tonight, we will learn about the history of bees and the vital part bees play in the biodiversity and security of our food supply. Joyce Wilder has been a beekeeper for over nine years. She is here to educate us about the importance of bees to our gardens, our farms, our food supply, and even our lives. She is a retired educator who now travels to numerous garden clubs and organizations in the area sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm about bees. Joyce also presents a sampling table of different types of honey. We are invited to sample and purchase these varieties of honey. We may never again think of bees as just annoying buzzing insects.
NOTE, Bring cut flowers from your garden to make bouquets to cheer Homestead Village Residents.
